Day 3: Declutter & Clearify

Nothing glamorous about this one—just a pile of stuff. Yet when I look at what I had piled in my bathroom cabinet, it reminds me of the pandemic and who I am. We all have personal stories of how the pandemic affected us. Many struggle, as we’re still in the midst of outbreaks, long-term COVID, and loss. When we were homebound, I had wipes, hand sanitizer, gloves, cleaners, paper towels, and masks all over the house. I had extra supplies in case friends or family needed them. I was on high alert—watching out for germs and signs of sickness. That pile in my cabinet reminded me of the pandemic’s heavy weight and how the stress kept adding up.

The variety of supplies represent who I am—nurturer, caretaker, mom, protector of skin, and germaphobe. I’m always prepared to help someone out. I’ve been like that since high school. I’d carry an oversized bag filled with supplies, not only for me but in case someone else needed them—pens, band aids, gum, sanitary supplies, tissues, tape, scissors, probably a stapler at some point. I was a walking convenience store. I love helping people, and it continues to this day.

On July 4th, a young adult I was walking with forgot to put on sunscreen. I handed her a travel size tube I had in my shoulder bag. Surprised? You shouldn’t be.

Even though stuff gets piled up sometimes, I’m always prepared.

Anyone need some sunscreen or hand sanitizer?

What do you always have an extra supply of in your house, purse, or vehicle?
