Day 14: Declutter & Clearify
I know what you’re saying. Sheets? She can’t get rid of sheets? These aren’t just any sheets. They’re from my boys’ twin beds—from a time when they were carefree children who loved camouflage and fishing.
I remember having Holly Hobby and Strawberry Shortcake sheets as a child. Sheets can tell a story about a child’s interests at certain times of their lives. As they grow and mature, their room and décor change. Sheets included.
I’ve cleaned out this hall linen closet before, and those sheets were placed back on the highest shelf. We don’t have twin beds, so I’m ready to give them away so someone else’s child can grow with them.
Another option is to make them into pillows or curtains. A wonderful friend did this for us with Nick’s camouflage bathrobe. Having these pillows throughout the house is like being cushioned by love.
The closet was overpacked. Every time I opened the door, my barely used ironing board shot out at me. Now it’s placed securely to the side. Blankets are stacked neatly on the top shelf. I recycled empty boxes, reorganized my holiday and birthday bags.
Our emergency fire escape ladder is actually accessible now.
Big changes.
Feels good to pass along items that someone else can use and love.
What sheets did you have as a child?
What kind of sheets do you love using now?
Check out your childhood bedroom photos if you have them. Your interests are right there waiting to be remembered.
