Day 22: Declutter & Clearify

It’s been a while but I’m back to decluttering. I always think I’m going to watch one of the hundred DVDs on my shelves. We still have a DVD player and the option to watch BlueRay on an Xbox or Playstation. When it comes down to it, most of these movies are now streamed online.

DVDs, like books and music say so much about a person: where they have been in their lives, what makes them laugh, what they find entertaining or moving. What makes them hard to get rid of are the stories behind them.

Here are the DVDs I’m keeping and why:

Three DVDs: The Expendables 1, 2 & 3

My only complaint is it took them until the third movie to get a woman in the group!

The Expendables--#4 is coming out soon! I love Sylvester Stallone and this group of iconic actors. Stallone has starred in #1 movies for the last 6 decades. He reminds me of my dad with his big build, soft but humorous personality, and a deep loyalty and love for family.

Princess Bride, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, A Knight’s Tale, Timeline, and Young Frankenstein are my go to movies that I’ve watched over and over. Love stories, Medieval time travel, never give up with more than a touch of humor. Nick and I watched A Knight’s Tale when he was in the hospital. Stephen and I watch Men in Tights when we want something familiar and lighthearted!

Three DVDs: Space Balls, Johnny Dangerously, and Sixteen Candles

Sixteen Candles, Space Balls, and Johnny Dangerously are hilarious classics. My boys loved the potty humor of Space Balls just as they loved Captain Underpants. Johnny Dangerously is hilarious but also about a son’s love for his mom. Who can’t relate to the awkwardness of maturing in school and first love in Sixteen Candles.

Three DVDs: Dirty Dancing, My Cousin Vinny, The Ugly Truth

I laugh hysterically with my friend, Julie, every time we watch The Ugly Truth. My Cousin Vinny reminds me of my cousin Vinny and my family—funny, loyal, and determined.

Finally, Dirty Dancing is my all-time favorite movie. I grew up in the Catskills and worked at similar resorts. The staff hung out on breaks and even though we didn’t have late night dancing, we had fun hanging at the pool with the guests. I love the timeless romance between Baby and Johnny and grew up around 50’s music. My parents seamlessly danced together with that interconnectedness and beauty when two people are in love.

What do these movies say about me?

I’m a funny gal who loves timeless romance with a side of kick ass action.
