Family Decorations
Seasonal and holiday decorations spark joyful memories. It may be a homemade dish that my boys covered with Halloween and ghost stickers. It takes me back to a time when my boys loved doing arts and crafts. The kitchen filled with the scent of pumpkin seeds roasting, apple cider and cinnamon brewing, and thoughts of costumes on their mind.
Spooky pumpkin lights and smiling ones hanging from the window that I had bought when they were babies.
Witch and ghost dishes filled with candy corn and chocolate meant for trick or treaters but maybe just a few eaten to satisfy that sweet tooth.
When Nick was in the hospital during his favorite season of the year, his Aunt Maka brought him a plastic jack-o-lantern that lit up. Nick beamed with happiness as she brought joy into his space. That jack-o-lantern kept vigil over him every night. Each time he looked at it, he felt his Aunt Maka’s love.
Bears dressed in costumes, smiling scarecrows, sparkling owls, candles, gnomes, and many pumpkins. My house is speckled with warmth and fall fun. As I hold each piece, I am transported back to cherished memories.
